Summary
Betchott Hill is a registered Habitat Bank owned by Shropshire Wildlife Trust. During this visit to the 50ha site we will consider the challenges, opportunities and lessons learned from the process of establishing the habitat bank and share our insights and best practice with attendees.
Description
Shropshire Wildlife Trust purchased 50ha of land at Betchcott Hill, on the northern end of the Long Mynd in 2024 for the purpose of establishing a Habitat Bank. That bank is now registered and selling units. During this site visit we will discuss the challenges of establishing a bank, showcase our early habitat enhancement activities and share the knowledge we have gained during the process.
Fran Lancaster (BSc, MSc, MFA, MCIEEM) is the Head of Conservation and Policy at Shropshire Wildlife Trust (SWT). After fourteen years as a Local Government Ecologist Fran joined SWT and has brought her planning experience to establishing Betchcott Hill as a Habitat Bank and to selling the 252 units which will be generated at the site.
Rob Hall is the Senior Reserves Officer at SWT responsible for the day to day management of Betchcott Hill and for the delivery of the HMMP on the ground.
We can provide transport from SWT office in Shrewsbury for up to 8 people: 193 Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY2 6AH – there is a public car park (pay and display) and it’s a manageable walk from the train station. Please let us know if you require transport at the time of booking.
