Introducing the SocEnv Soil Management Hierarchies

Summary

Join this webinar to find out more about the hierarchies, how you can apply them in your work, the importance of early materials planning and the influential Soils and Stones project which developed these hierarchies.

Description

In 2025 the Society for the Environment launched two Soil Management Hierarchies – for development sites and rural settings.

Offering high level frameworks to guide good practice for soil management, within their two respective settings, these hierarchies seek to clearly identify tiers of potential actions, based on the impact those actions can have on soil health and resource efficiency.

All practitioners can benefit from consideration of these hierarchies, which point to high-level resource considerations, as well as specific tools and options for managing soils sustainably. Use of the hierarchies can support innovations, policy development, government departments, development organisations, project design teams and landowners across sectors.
