Toads in Roads with George Cope

Summary

How to Save Toads on Busy Roads: George Cope’s engaging presentation on Froglife’s Toads on Roads project explores amphibian identification, joining and setting up local toad patrols, biosecurity, inspiring case studies, and making a real impact protecting amphibians during their spring migration.

Description

George Cope’s presentation on Froglife’s Toads on Roads project highlights the urgent issue of 20 tonnes of toads killed annually on UK roads during spring migration. The talk covers amphibian identification, infrastructure barriers like roads and drains, and ways to get involved, either by joining local toad patrols or setting up new ones at migration hotspots such as The Crescent. Participants will be able to improve their amphibian species ID skills, learn about pond ecology, and learn to connect with conservation networks. Practical guidance includes finding nearby crossings, joining patrols, and using the Patrol Pack, as well as other essential resources and tools.

George Cope (ACIEEM) is a senior ecologist working for Arcadis. He has 5+ years of experience in the field of ecology and conservation. He is a keen herpetologist and dedicates much of his time to volunteering and raising awareness for the protection of wildlife and their habitats.
