CIEEM Ireland Section Annual Legal Workshop with McCann FitzGerald - IN PERSON

CIEEM invite you to join us as we chat to McCann FitzGerald on recent Irish and CJEU case law, with an interactive Q&A session.


Description

The annual legal workshop will be held with McCann FitzGerald solicitors and led by their in-house experts on Environmental and Planning Law, the Habitats Directive, and litigation in respect of these. This lunchtime event will include an update on recent case law, as well as providing the opportunity for the usual extended interactive Q&A session with the legal personnel.

It will be run as a hybrid event with attendees having the choice between attending in person or watching online. In person spaces will be limited and on a first come, first serve basis. If you would like to book to attend online please CLICK HERE

McCannFitzGerald Solicitors:

Brendan Slatteryis head of our Environment & Planning Group. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the areas of environment, planning and climate change, and is recognised as an expert at national and EU levels, having advised regulatory authorities, statutory bodies, local authorities and developers on the delivery of a wide range of local and national projects. In recent years, Brendan has advised on almost every contentious infrastructure project across Ireland spanning the areas of energy, transport, real estate development, water, wastewater and the agri-business sector.

Michelle Doyle is a highly experienced planning and environment and disputes resolution partner with over 28 years’ experience in major infrastructure, road and rail projects. Michelle advises the NTA, TII, CIE and various Local Authorities on the regulatory framework for all types of infrastructure projects, guiding projects from the preparation of application documents (Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs), Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening Reports, Natura Impact Statements (NIS) and all CPO/MO/PRS and Railway Orders) to oral hearing (when it occurs) and defending any legal challenges taken by way of judicial review or otherwise.

Sinéad Martyn is a Partner in our Environment & Planning Group. Her expertise spans the full project lifecycle — from onshore and offshore development and consenting, to judicial review defence, transactional support and strategic advice on the sector's most complex regulatory challenges. Her client base spans the energy, water, waste, transport, life sciences and digital infrastructure sectors, acting for developers, funders, state agencies and multinational occupiers alike. Sinéad is the former chairperson of the Irish Environmental Law Association.

Nathan Walsh is a senior associate with significant experience in advising public bodies seeking to develop large infrastructure projects. Nathan works closely with Michelle and and plays a central role in providing planning and environmental advices on projects such as BusConnects, Luas Finglas and various road projects.

Sam McMahon is a key associate in our Environmental and Planning Group, having worked closely with Brendan and Sinéad since joining the team in 2022. He advises clients across a broad range of environmental and planning law matters, with particular expertise in energy projects and maritime development, including the complex regulatory intricacies of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 and the RESS and ORESS regimes.

Prior Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of current legislation. Attendees should have experience of the application of Irish and European wildlife /environmental legislation in the course of their work as practising ecologists/ environmental managers.
