Delivering Nature Investment – woodland creation site visit

Summary

Private nature investment and natural capital markets are increasingly becoming major players in the management of land in Scotland, involving carbon codes as well as biodiversity credits, sponsorship, ecosystem tokens, etc. These areas involve much ecological work, particularly biodiversity baselining, metrics and monitoring yet many ecologists are still new to this arena. This event will introduce attendees to one such award-winning scheme at Dumyat, near Stirling, and allow discussion about all such aspects.

Description

The visit will include a visit to new native woodland, designed and devised under the Woodland Carbon Code to sit alongside biodiversity sponsorship work on land outwith the woodland. The visit will allow attendees to see work on the ground and discuss all the issues associated with such projects, including community engagement, biodiversity baselining and a better understanding of the private nature finance marketplace. The visit will centre on the Future Forest Company’s award-winning woodland at Dumyat, Stirling and touch on adjacent schemes.

Lindsay Mackinlay has been an ecologist for over 30 years, working in almost all sectors, including academia, local authority, SNH, National Trust for Scotland, freelance, Future Forest Company and now within the Natural Capital Team at Savills. He has spent much of the last 5 years within the new private nature finance market and works with large estates and smaller projects to realise nature restoration ambitions.
