We have two species of seal in the UK – the common seal and the grey seal. This webinar will focus mainly on the grey seal.
There are features that can be used to easily tell them apart but how do you identify an individual seal? This webinar will show how to use pelage markings to identify grey seals and also show how movements of rescued and rehabilitated seals can be tracked. As part of this we will also look at the life-cycle of seals; reproduction feeding, distribution and conservation. Seals are subject to many threats, including disturbance, whether resting, pupping, moulting or travelling between haul-out and foraging sites. This webinar will highlight threats to seals from entanglement, disturbance, abandonment pollution and loss of food prey. We will also look at current legislation relating to seal protection and the effects of disturbance on their welfare. As part of this, we will also cover rescue, rehab and release.

About the Presenter
As a founding member of the Seal Welfare Organisation, a Sea Watch Foundation regional co-coordinator and a BDMLR Marine Mammal medic with experience of training, rescue and release, Lorna is passionate about the marine environment.
