Summary
Presentation by the Four Rivers for LIFE project about the river restoration work it has done on the Teifi, Tywi, Usk and Cleddau SAC Rivers.
Description
The project has used long term nature-based solutions to improve the ecological quality of the four rivers such as, improving accessibility for migratory fish and improving habitat structure and function.
The presentation will highlight the constraints to fish migration and how these have been removed at several sites, addressing in-river barriers such as weirs and other structures.
The project has also re-naturalised some rivers and restored natural processes by using boulders, woody material and gravel.
Proposed re-meandering, and floodplain reconnection schemes will also be discussed.
Leila Thornton is Senior River Restoration Officer for the Four Rivers for LIFE project. The project is an EU LIFE Programme funded project to improve the condition of four SAC rivers in south Wales: Teifi, Cleddau, Tywi and Usk.
