Summary
This is an event that will encapsulate the 5 B’s in Ecology. Bats, Birds, Bees, Butterflies and British mammals. An exciting series of events that enable attendees to be involved, learn survey techniques and identification skills, and hear talks on these topics from University of Derby professors.
Description
Join us for the second event in the 5B’s series, a hands-on day of woodland and freshwater exploration at Sturgess Field, Derby.
During this session, we will explore the fascinating diversity of invertebrate life that emerges throughout the summer months, with a particular focus on bugs and butterflies. Participants will have the opportunity to develop practical identification skills and gain confidence in recognising a range of species in their natural habitats.
The day will also include kick sampling in the Markeaton Brook, providing valuable insight into freshwater ecosystems and the organisms they support.
This supportive and engaging session is ideal for students, beginners, and practising ecologists who are looking to build or enhance their fieldwork skills.
Eleanor Atkins will be the lead speaker/presenter from the University of Derby. She has worked closely with the CIEEM and leads modules such as Habitat management, ecological consultancy and field biology. With a vast knowledge of ecological practices, including survey techniques and identification skills.
