Summary
This is an event that will encapsulate the 5 B’s in Ecology. Bats, Birds, Bees, Butterflies and British mammals. An exciting series of events that enable attendees to be involved, learn survey techniques and identification skills, and hear talks on these topics from University of Derby professors.
Description
The event title “The 5 B’s” will be an event spread across five different sessions. The first session will encompass British mammals and Fungi. Attendees will have the opportunity to set mammal traps and participate in talks about the importance of mammals, survey techniques, and the reasons behind these efforts. With the potential of a Fungi session to celebrate World Fungi Day in October. The next events are scheduled to take place between April and June 2026. These will include bat emergence and/or surveys, as well as bats returning to their nests, hopefully with bat acoustic equipment. There will also be an opportunity to undertake Bee and Butterfly surveys, in which attendees will be able to identify species using equipment such as bug nets and magnification pots. Additionally, bird nesting surveys and identification can also be conducted.
Eleanor Atkins will be the lead speaker/presenter from the University of Derby. She has worked closely with the CIEEM and leads modules such as Habitat management, Ecological consultancy and Field biology. With a vast knowledge of survey techniques and identification skills.
