"Stage 0" River restoration: an introduction

Description

Stage 0 river restoration or ‘full floodplain reconnection’ is an exciting development in river restoration which sees modified single channel rivers being transformed into multi-channel wetlands. The approach has been pioneered in the USA but is increasingly being tested in the UK. This session will describe the history and origins of the approach, describe some case studies and explore the opportunities and constraints for more widespread adoption. About the Presenter: Stewart is the National Specialist for Freshwater and Catchments with the National Trust and has over 20 years’ experience in freshwater conservation and management. He is passionate about the restoration of freshwater and wetland ecosystems and how a focus on catchments and water can transform landscapes for nature and people.
