Summary
Join CIEEM as we chat with Conor McKinney about the status of Open Mosaic Habitats in Belfast.
Description
The recently published Wild Belfast and Buglife report “State of Belfast’s brownfields: nature under threat” report shows that over just a seven-year period, 40% of 47 important brownfield sites for wildlife in Belfast that were previously identified have been lost, damaged or are in immediate threat.
This talk reflects on the loss of a UK priority habitat in Belfast and the steps that need to be taken by the sector to better recognise these important habitats.
Conor is an ecologist and passionate wildlife advocate. He has had a varied career working as a conservation manager with Ulster Wildlife as biosecurity manager on the remote, uninhabited archipelago of St Kilda as a broadcaster. He has set up his own consultancy Starling Ecology and is the founder and chair of the conservation charity “Wild Belfast”.
