Coastal Habitats: Saltmarshes, Coastal lagoons and Mudflats

An overview of the importance of saltmarshes, coastal lagoons, and mudflats. Particular focus will be given to the ongoing impacts of coastal squeeze and sea level changes.

An insight into the specialised and varied habitats found on UK coastlines, the protections afforded to them, and species of principle conservation concern. We will discuss the importance of these habitats, necessity of regular monitoring, effective and appropriate survey techniques, outputs, and species of interest within each of the habitat types. The presenters have experience in conducting widescale and focussed NVC surveys, carrying out surveys for individual protected species (found exclusively within coastal habitats – such as Nematostella vectensis), and providing ECoW for works on protected habitats.
