Summary
Two part event. First up, come and hear about the world-leading work being conducted by the ECHO Program. This collaborative program has been designed to better understand and reduce the cumulative effects from commercial shipping activities on marine mammals. Following the webinar, we will have the marine and coastal special interest group annual members meeting.
Description
The southern coast of British Columbia, Canada, is home to a robust and diverse coastal ecosystem, sustaining numerous populations of whales, porpoises and dolphins, including the endangered southern resident killer whales. Launched in 2014, the Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Program, led by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, is a regional, collaborative program designed to better understand and reduce the cumulative effects from commercial shipping activities on at-risk whales. The program advances a number of research projects and on-water operational initiatives, with a key focus on reduction of vessel-generated underwater noise to support recovery of endangered killer whales. Learn more about the world-leading work the ECHO Program is undertaking to chart a quieter course for commercial shipping.
Webinar will be followed by the M&C SIG annual members meeting. Join us to meet your committee, find out what we get up to, tell us what you wish we get up to, and hear about future plans.
