Description This course will provide you with a basic template for assessments and show you how to carry out a basic assessment. We will look at multiple examples of Appropriate Assessment in action and discuss screening, Stage 2 assessments, cumulative impacts and mitigation.The training includes discussions, presentations and case studies to develop understanding. Knowledge Level Beginner Prior Knowledge No specific knowledge is required beyond a background in ecology. Learning Outcomes Describe Legal background of Birds and Habitats Directives and the 2010 Planning Act in relation to Natura 2000 sites including aspects such as retention, extension of time and exempt development. Recognise competent authorities and list their responsibilities. Detail the various stages in Appropriate Assessment. Bring a simple project through the AA process and decide what additional information (if any) is required and decide how to get this information (e.g. survey/data purchase).
