Survey protocols for bioacoustics monitoring and surveying of birds

Biodiversity monitoring is key to assess ecological change, identify trends, and evaluate the impact of interventions. Acoustic monitoring methods have undergone substantial recent development due to cheaper hardware, automated identification, development of acoustic indices, and standardisation of recording protocols. This gives increasing opportunities for both species-based approaches and wider ‘soundscape’ monitoring that can indicate more holistic environmental quality. This session will explore the developing survey protocols that can be applied for use with bird species or wider ecosystem recordings.

This webinar will be presented by Carlos Abrahams. Carlos is the Director of Bioacoustics at Baker Consultants, a senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, and vice-chair on CIEEMs Training Education and Career Development Committee. He has worked in consultancy for 20 years, following previous roles in countryside management. He publishes research in bioacoustics and freshwater ecology, and is keen on the development of fieldwork techniques and monitoring approaches.
