Description

Scotland is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, ranking 28th from bottom out of more than 240 countries, as measured by the Biodiversity Intactness Index, conveying the need for ambition and urgency to restore nature across Scotland.

In the 'Scottish Biodiversity Strategy to 2045: Tackling the Nature Emergency', there is the ambition for Scotland to be nature positive by 2030 and to have restored and regenerated biodiversity across the country by 2045. Nature restoration targets for Scotland will be in the forthcoming Natural Environment Bill and internationally there is the EU's Nature Restoration Law.

This conference will look at how nature restoration is being achieved in Scotland at present and what will need to be achieved in the future to ensure we are nature positive.

Sessions will focus on the following themes:

1. Case studies of restoration at varying scales/habitats.

2. Innovative methods of restoration and enhancement.

3. 30 x 30/protected areas and nature networks - How will this work in practice to ensure ecological connectivity.

4. Investing in nature (nature finance and nature markets, including codes and standards for carbon, biodiversity and water markets). How should these be embedded to deliver restoration at landscape scale?

5. Positive effects for biodiversity and biodiversity enhancement  – case studies of how NPF4 is being implemented.

6. How do we measure biodiversity to know whether nature restoration measures are successful? How do we take action, monitor and share results (positive and negative) at the scale and level of urgency needed?

The call for papers closed on the 31st May. The programme will be announced and bookings will open at the end of June/start of July.
