Time to Change: Putting the Environment at the Heart of Social and Economic Wellbeing

Description

This online event is coming at a critical time for our future. Recent events have hugely impacted our society, our economy and our perspectives on what the future could look like. We are working in a period of heightened public awareness of the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis and the spread of Covid-19 has put us at a crossroads.

Do we prioritise ‘economic recovery at all costs’ by championing industrial growth, or do we take a greener path by putting action to tackle the climate emergency and biodiversity loss at the core of political and financial instruments to aid economic recovery? How do we evidence the value of a green recovery? What role can our profession play in delivering it? Where are the new opportunities for our work to deliver positive change for the environment, society and the economy? How can we take advantage of new tools, techniques and policies to do so? All of these changes and challenges are affecting the expectations of our profession. Are we ready to deliver?

This 3-day conference, presented in up to 6 ‘easy to digest’ sessions, will explore these questions whilst reflecting on the implications for the ways in which we enhance our skills and develop our practice to be fit for the future. Delegates will be able to pick and choose the sessions most relevant to them (minimum of keynote session plus 2 others) without running the risk of Zoom Overload.

Keynote speakers include:

Rebecca Pow MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Defra
Tony Juniper, Chair of Natural England
Emma Howard Boyd, Chair of the Environment Agency
Judy Ling Wong, Hon. President, Black Environment Network
Professor Harriet Bulkeley FAcSS FBA, Durham University
Diana Pound, Dialogue Matters
